Brian Orahood—Lead Minister
I'm from the small town of Andover, Ohio—where lake-effect snow rules the winter. My folks, Mary Jo and Ronald, took my two brothers and me to the Andover Christian Church every Sunday so we could learn about God. It was there, during an old fashion revival, that I decided to follow Jesus and was immersed into Christ on August 10, 1972.
On February 10, 1979, I was involved in a life-changing motor vehicle accident and spent over three months in the hospital. I spent the next year recuperating and reassessing the direction of my life. The Lord led me to become a preacher—so I enrolled in the Cincinnati Christian University. (The rest is history, so to speak.)
I served as a youth minister at the Edgewood Christian Church in Roanoke, Virginia. I served as a minister of education/evangelism at the Cherry Avenue Christian Church in Charlottesville. I helped start the Virginia Evangelizing Fellowship's Virginia Vision Project—a group committed to planting new churches in the Commonwealth. As a result, I had the opportunity to lead the Project's first church plant and on September 16, 1990, the Stafford County Christian Church was born.
Eventually, I moved to Fluvanna County (August 1999) and accepted the challenge of planting this church—Lake Christian Church. Our first worship service was November 7, 1999 at Lake Monticello Fire & Rescue's Maple Room. It is a blessing to be the lead minister of this healthy, growing group of believers who strive to maintain a simple church committed to loving God, loving others, and serving the world.
My prioritites for ministry are preaching, leadership development, and outreach. My motto for ministry is "Never Do Ministry Alone." In addition to my responsibilities at LCC, I'm certified by CoachNet International to be a leadership coach. And I serve as the director of the Fluvanna Christian Service Society.
My best friend/bride, Billie, and I practice our parenting skills on four kids—Mallory (23), Meredith (20), Tesla (16), and Ethan (13).

Chris Long—Youth Minister
I'm from the small town of Orange, Virginia. My life story is a little different from most preachers. My parents Glen and Shelby Long did not start attending church until I was a freshman in high school. Although my family did not attend church on a regular basis we lived by good morals.
I was challenged by Dave Cuthbertson at Cherry Avenue Christian Church (the same church that started LCC) to go off to Bible College. I decided to give God a chance and so I went to Roanoke Bible College, a small Christian College near the outer banks.
While in college, I worked at Rosemary Church of Christ in eastern North Carolina for two years before leaving and becoming the Admissions Counselor at Roanoke Bible College (RBC). I worked at RBC for a little over a year before coming back to the area.
It's completely amazing how God works as LCC was just getting its start when I went off to RBC, I had always had a dream of moving back close to my home town and working at LCC. God allowed that to happen in 2003 and I have been here ever since.
I have a real passion for young people to help them find and mature their faith. I believe that young people have a lot to offer the body of Christ; therefore I continue to challenge the youth at LCC to be sold out for Jesus.
In our youth program we have one mission statement: CORE
Care for one another, Offer service to the community, Reach the lost for Christ, and Examine our own spiritual life. |
